The “be” verbs in passive voice must be used as linking verbs along with the past participle of the principle verb of the active sentence. The various “be” verbs that are used in forming the passive voice include is, are, am, were, was, been, being and be.

When to use “be” verbs in passive voice?

The “be” verbs are used in passive voice right before the past participle of the main verb in the sentence. It can also be said that the “be” verbs in passive voice are placed right after the subject of the sentence, thereby indicating the state of being or by acting as a linking verb.

Example: The students كان taken to the botanical garden yesterday.

The above sentence is in المبني للمجهول. يوفر “be” verb المستخدمة هنا "كانوا" and it is used right before the past participle “taken” (main verb). In other words we can say that the “be” verb “were” is used right after the sentence’s subject “students”.

The following are the list of examples where the “be” verbs are utilized in the passive voice.

  • 1. The child has كان crying from the afternoon.
  • 2. Candies and ice creams . loved by almost all kids and children.
  • 3. البيت وكان decorated by my cousin Meera, an interior designer.
  • 4. The model for the project هو يجري constructed by us.
  • 5. Don’t worry, the problem will be dealt as soon as possible.
  • 6. The sweets for the function يتم made by the best cook of the city.
  • 7. راما is elected as the leader of the class.
  • 8. The class هو يجري held responsible for the chaos that happened in the assembly.
  • 9. فيهان is appreciated for his hard work by his class teacher.10. The movie will be watched by this Sunday night.
  • 10. The movie will be watched by this Sunday night.

In all the above sentences, the المائل words are the "يكون" verbs. We see that the various “be” verbs يتم استخدامها في المبني للمجهول وفقا ل grammatical number and the grammatical person of the subject. We can also notice that the “be” verbs in passive sentences are always located in between the subject and the past participle of the main verb.
